Who's yer daddy?
The first words my beautiful wife said to me this morning were, “I think it’s working!” She was referring to the contractions that woke her up at 3:30AM. Considering her amniotic fluid was low and they were set to induce the labor on Sunday, this was good news. We REALLY wanted a pure old fashioned, natural, unmedicated, un-forced labor. And boy were we about to get it.
In my groggy state, I managed to deduce that the contractions were all over the place within about 5-10 minutes apart. 10, 7, 10, 5, 9… “Ah, so it begins I thought to myself. A couple hours of this and we’ll be heading to the hospital” That was until they quickly dropped to 3-5 minutes apart… the time when the midwives said we needed to call the hospital.
hi
As it was 4:30am or so by this point, the midwives were not in, so the process was: I call in, talk to a messaging service, then they call me back 10 minutes later. When they called back, the contractions were pretty much 3 minutes apart on the nose.
It was time to get moving to the hospital. However, we’d be moving in 3 minute steps:
Contraction begins.
Contraction ends! Help her put some pants on.
Contraction begins.
Contraction ends! Help with her shoes.
Contraction begins.
Contraction ends! Half way down the hallway.
Contraction begins.
Contraction ends! To the front door.
Contraction begins.
Contraction ends! Get halfway to the truck!
Contraction begins. Shes kneeling in the grass outside our house to make it through this one.
Contraction ends! Get her in the truck!
And from there it was a mad dash to the hospital through pretty thick fog.
We reached the hospital at 5:50am or so… and out popped Zoe Nicole Mitrovich at 6:34am. 6lbs 2oz, 19in long and the most beautiful little girl these eyes have ever seen.
What a day.
