Changing work schedules
Ever since Zoe was born in October, I have had the awesome opportunity of working from home for 3 days each week. While working from home is not the same as simply “being” home, it has given me a lot of opportunity to connect with Zoe and Tish throughout the day.
However, I have had to pass the “work from home” baton this week to a co-worker who also just had a baby girl… and frankly, it sucks. Most mornings, Zoe is asleep when I leave for work and she SHOULD be going to bed about the time I get home.
We’be been keeping her up past her bedtime so that I can spend some time with her, but I wonder if we’re trading one good thing for another. I mean, according to the bible, “…these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” I’m pretty sure that if we pull out the original bible manuscripts, we’ll find that the translators forgot to put “sleep” on that list.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a great job. I greatly value the paycheck and the insurance and all that. But sometimes I wish I could be paid with time instead of money. On the one hand, we were able to afford the purchase of a video camera recently to document the ever increasing changes in our little one. On the other hand, when will I be home to use it?
